Many individuals with prediabetes are looking for ways to get insurance coverage for weight loss medications like Ozempic and Manjaro. However, insurance companies typically won’t cover these drugs unless the patient has a diabetes diagnosis.
For those seeking weight loss treatments, some may have coverage for Wegovy or Zetbound, which contain the same active ingredients as Ozempic and Manjaro but are marketed specifically for weight management. However, most insurance plans still do not cover medications for weight loss.
A few exceptions exist, such as Blue Cross federal insurance and insurance plans offered through Native American tribes. In Oklahoma, employees working for casinos operated by tribal nations may have access to weight loss drug coverage.
For those unable to get coverage, a new clinical trial could provide an alternative. Tekton Research is launching a study in Moore, Oklahoma, testing a weekly weight loss injection from Eli Lilly. The trial is open to individuals with a BMI over 35 who do not have diabetes.
Interested participants can contact Tekton Research at 405-825-1588 or visit their official website.
