The northern half of Oklahoma City's new downtown park is well under construction, but it won't include an element that I think could've made it famous.
I'm talking about the Land Run monument that I championed for months when city leaders were deciding on a name for the new park.
I talked to the Mayor and the City Manager today and they said the park plans are too far along to be changed at this point to include the monument.
Perhaps, they said, when the Southern half is build which will be off the beaten path.
The point it that one of Oklahoma's most beautiful works of art is hidden at the end of the Bricktown Canal, and we had a great opportunity to spotlight it.
There are a lot of people here in Oklahoma City who don;t even know the monument exists.
I talked to the sculptor today, Paul Moore, who's currently finishing the final two pieces of the monument. He will be meeting soon with the mayor to talk about redoing the landscape around the monument adding more lighting.
But that obscure location doesn't now and may not for years do justice to the work he and his sons have given y
