DEER CREEK, Oklahoma – The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was called to Grove Valley Elementary in Deer Creek over a possible hand grenade found Thursday morning.
A student at the school handed a teacher what appeared to be a hand grenade. The device was placed in a secure area and students were evacuated to the opposite side of the building.
A deputy who works on the campus assisted with the evacuation around 9:30 a.m.
The bomb squad quickly determined that the grenade was not active because the internal components had been removed from the shell of the device.
The grenade shell has been removed from the school and disposed of.
