Oklahoma City Council To Vote On Approval Of Costco Call Center

The Oklahoma City Council could push plans forward for a new Costco call center at a meeting Tuesday morning.

If the plan is approved, Costco could get the ball rolling on hiring about 500 employees within the first year of the plan. 

The OKC Economic Development Trust approved the contract Monday afternoon.

The Oklahoman reported the Trust is working with Costco to decide where the call center will be built. Costco said it'll make that announcement in a couple of weeks.

The deal calls for a $3 million incentive from the City's General Obligation Limited Tax Bond, passed by voters in 2017.

The package would bring about 1,044 positions to the city, including call center, tech support, and managerial positions. Those new employees could get a $60,000 salary within the first three years with medical benefits.

OKC Mayor David Holt said this huge jobs package is coming just in time while thousands of Oklahomans are out of a job because of COVID-19.

The mayor took to social media and said "This is potentially amazing economic news for our city and we are fully committed to seeing it through to the finish line.”
