Karl’s Caramel Dream Bars

Karl’s Caramel Dream Bars- 64 Kraft caramels, unwrapped
- 2/3 cup whipping cream
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups old-fashioned oats
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
- 2 cups salted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 +cups milk chocolate chocolate chips (we used semi-sweet)
- 2 cups walnuts, chopped
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Spray a 9x13 pan with nonstick cooking spray.
To make the crust & crumble:
- In a medium sized bowl, mix together the melted butter, oats, flour, brown sugar, baking soda and salt until a cookie dough is formed.
- Press half of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared 9 x 13 pan.
- Bake in the oven for 12 minutes.
Caramel sauce:
- While the cookie crust is cooking, in a double boiler melt the caramels and whipping cream together until melted.
- Remove from heat.
To assemble bars:
- Pour the warm caramel over the warm cookie crust and spread to cover.
- Sprinkle with chocolate chips and nuts.
- Add the remaining crumbles over the top.
- Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until top is golden brown and edges are bubbly.
- Allow the bars to cool on the counter.
- Cut into squares and store extras in the refrigerator.
- Enjoy with a big glass of milk!
