The Chili Bowl Midget Nationals is back in Tulsa for its 35th annual event and with new safety precautions in place this year.

The Chili Bowl is considered the biggest race on dirt – the “Super Bowl” of midget car racing.

The races start Monday evening at 6, but crews have spent the past two days setting up and getting the quarter-mile clay oval ready for racing at the River Spirit Expo Center.

The Chili Bowl has an entire section on its website dedicated to its COVID-19 safety plans.

It says it is reducing its general seating capacity to 25% and also limiting pit passes.

Anyone watching the races, working the races or participating in the races will have their temperature checked before going inside the expo center.

Masks are required, except when eating or drinking. And drivers will not have to wear a mask during their races due to their helmets and fire protection gear.

The Chili Bowl said anyone who refuses a temperature check or refuses to wear a mask will be asked to leave.

The event's free trade show, a long-standing tradition, is also up and running with more than 100 vendors showcasing racing products, apparel and more.

The Chili Bowl wraps up its six-days of racing on Saturday evening.
