Jeromy Carter is News 9's newest storm tracker. He got his first taste during February's Arctic blast, but he says he is more than ready for spring storms.
He said, “I live for spring every year, and it don’t seem like a long way off.”
Jeromy grew up in Oklahoma and is the son of a roofer.
“Weather is what’s made our world go around since I was a little boy,” said Jeromy.
After his dad passed away when he was 18, Jeromy started storm chasing to keep his mind busy.
He said, “I actually caught my first tornado, it would have been in June 1998 I think it was.”
His passion for weather is only eclipsed by his love for his wife Ramie and their family.
Jeromy said, “We were married. I just turned 18 and she was 16. Yeah we were babies.”
Ramie added, “We were babies.”
Jeromy chimed in, “We kind of grew up together.”
The couple has five kids and two grandkids.
Ramie said, “We’re getting empty-nest syndrome so I need to find a new hobby.”
This spring Jeromy's two loves will collide.
“She gets pretty lonely whenever I’m gone. I said, ‘load up and come with me.’ I need somebody to control the map anyway,” said Jeromy.
Ramie added, “I’m pretty excited about going.”
This makes them the newest husband-and-wife team to join the country's largest and most experienced storm trackers.
Jeromy said, “You always see these tornadoes ripping across the country side right? Working for a news station, you’re not just going out and looking for a tornado. You’re helping everybody around, you know?”
