A first of its kind center designed to prevent child abuse is opening in Oklahoma City Wednesday.

The new Care Center at Northeast 13th and Lottie is designed to be child friendly. The center feels like a home, allowing kids to be more comfortable when they arrive.

Children stay at the center for many reasons including forensic interviews, medical exams and trauma-informed mental health services with their families.

The 7,000 square foot facility will expand those crucial services for kids in Oklahoma City.

Since January, The Care Center has served more than 640 families.

The ribbon cutting ceremony begins at noon Wednesday. Mayor David Holt, along with other officials, will be speaking at the event.
