One person is in custody and another is in the hospital after a police chase ended in a head-on crash.
Oklahoma City police said the driver hit 80 mph in a residential neighborhood.
Neighbors who heard the crash said the crash felt more like an explosion. When they came outside to check, they saw a mangled crash and one car was on the wrong side.
That car on the wrong side had Timothy Ary behind the wheel. Police first spotted Ary and a woman in the car near NW 36th and Hartford. Officers ran the plates and the car came back as stolen.
Ary didn't pull over, and instead, he took off.
"(The) pursuit gained speed. The suspect began pulling away from the police vehicle. The officers terminated the pursuit. It was simply getting too dangerous," said Oklahoma City police Master Sgt. Gary Knight.
Police chased Ary and the reportedly stolen vehicle for less than a mile before they pulled back.
A short time later, a separate squad car further down NW 36th saw flashing lights and what looked like a crash near Kentucky.
When officers got to the wreck, they saw the SUV officers chased was on the opposite side of the road.
Investigators said he jumped the median and smashed head-on into another car that just happened to be driving by.
There were four people involved between both cars.
Tire tracks and rubber marks can still be seen on the median that splits NW 36th near Kentucky where police said Ary crossed over.
People who live on the block said the impact sounded like an explosion, and some saw firefighters cut the cars open.
The two in the car passing by were taken to a hospital and have been released. Ary was also released and taken to the Oklahoma County Detention Center. His passenger is still in the hospital with neck injuries.
