Moore police said a domestic call turned into a pursuit Sunday night. They said Darren Schaeffer took them on a chase through town.
Moore Police responded to a home following a fight between a girlfriend and boyfriend.
“We observed a victim with physical injuries and the suspect had fled the scene on foot,” Lt. Wes Yost said.
Schaeffer got into his car and drove off, according to police.
“We only let pursuits happen as long as we have to, we were just waiting to get to a point where it was safe to perform the [Tactical Vehicle Intervention],” Schaeffer said.
Officers stayed close to Schaeffer, chasing him as he maneuvered on and sometimes off the roadways driving fast.
“The suspect was not just driving straight. He was attempting to elude; he was attempting to crash the police vehicle that was attempting to perform the TVI. Thus, causing the police vehicle to get further up on the vehicle than what we normally do,” Lt. Yost said.
Schaeffer's truck flipped several times after the TVI. Police said he was the only one inside. Schaeffer's truck landed upside down in the median of I-240. Body camera video shows when he got out.
Police said no one was seriously injured, despite damage being done to one of the patrol cars. The 26-year-old was taken into custody and is now behind bars at the Cleveland County jail.
“He was arrested for aggravated domestic, kidnapping, eluding, and then multiple other charges,” Lt. Yost said.
