State Fire Marshall Says Cause Of Stroud Fire May Never Be Determined

The cause and origin of a house fire where human remains were found is unlikely to be determined, according to the state fire marshals office.

Authorities say the scene could have been tampered with after it was left unsecured for days.

Last week, neighbors discovered human remains in a pile of charred rubble, six days after the Stroud home was destroyed by fire.

"It shouldn't have taken a Stroud resident to find remains in the house fire, when the town knew him and his girlfriend were missing," said family member Kimberly May.

May told News 9 she believes the remains belong to her cousin and his girlfriend. She and others want to know how they were missed by Stroud firefighters.

The OSBI is now investigating.
