A newly-signed state law will allow restaurants and school cafeterias to donate leftover food without liability.

The law does allow for lawsuits if the restaurant or cafeteria willfully donates spoiled food.

The bill's author, Representative Anthony Moore, says a lack of protection has stopped good food from being donated to those who need it, and he hopes the new bill helps address food shortages in the state.

The new law takes effect on November 1, 2023.
