As temperatures warm up, more people are spending time outside, meaning the number of snakebites also increases.
Wildlife experts said the chances of going out to a trail and encountering a snake are pretty small -- and out of 47 snake species in Oklahoma, only seven are venomous.
But now that all snakes are out of hibernation, you may find one in a fallen log or pile of leaves, especially at certain times of the day.
Mark Howery, a Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation senior wildlife diversity biologist, said snakes will often sun themselves early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
Experts said snakes don't try to bite humans unless they feel provoked.
If you get bitten, you should go to the hospital immediately and keep the wound as still as possible until treatment becomes available.
