A Kingfisher small business owner is tangled up in a $60 million dollar lawsuit for the Canton Apartment Fire.
In February of 2022 the fire blazed on for days which left Oklahoma City Fire Crews saying this was the largest fire they've ever battled.
The department's investigation found the fire started because of an "unintended electrical pathway" and was ruled accidental.
But in the court documents, the company behind the apartments claims the hot power conductor was connected to the building’s neutral conductors which they claim sparked several fires within the attic space suing OGE and subcontractor Red Dirt Electric LLC was named as that subcontractor.
On Tuesday, the law firm representing issued a correction, signaling that they had incorrectly named Red Dirt Electric in their lawsuit, and issued an amended petition naming the correct party, Red Dirt Construction, LLC.
The Petition inadvertently listed an incorrect Defendant, Red Dirt Electric, LLC. Immediate action was taken to remedy that mistake. A Dismissal Without Prejudice was filed as to Red Dirt Electric, LLC on July 18, 2023, along with an Amended Petition naming the correct party, Red Dirt Construction, LLC.
OGE released a statement saying they do not comment on pending litigation.
The Oklahoma City Fire Department stated the fire was accidental and did not identify the cause.
