A 9-year old boy was killed and two others were injured following a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Harper County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the crash happened at approximately 4:19 p.m. Tuesday along US-283 near E0150 Road.
According the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the crash involved three vehicles. The first vehicle, containing a 41-year-old male and 36-year-old female, as well as three children, was traveling northbound on US-238 when it came across a second vehicle, driven by a 22-year-old female, which was stopped in the roadway. A third vehicle was also involved, although it is unclear how.
The second vehicle was waiting for an additional vehicle, driven by a 47-year-old male, to pass by from the opposite direction when the first vehicle struck that second vehicle from behind.
The second vehicle was knocked out of the roadway, according to OHP, and rolled over partly, coming to a rest upside down. The first vehicle then crossed the center median.
OHP said a 9-year-old boy, one of the passengers in the first vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Another 7-year-old child in the same vehicle was transported to the hospital following the crash.
The driver of the second vehicle was also transported to the hospital.
OHP said the cause of the crash was inattentive driving.
