We love the movie theater experience, great popcorn and a drink, but there’s a new theater that is taking the movie experience to another level.
“I definitely built this for the needs of Oklahoma City and their entertainment,” said Samson Snell, owner of Icon Cinema. Snell isn’t from Oklahoma City, but after spending just a little time here, he knew this was home. “Yeah, I kind of fell in love with the city really,” said Snell.
When he found the old theater, at 4623 NW 23rd, needing a little love and care, he knew exactly what he was supposed to do. “It was a feeling when I was looking at all this stuff, I mean I was down the line on paperwork looking at this other cinema, and something when this popped up, I started pursuing it and I said this is where I needed to go,” said Snell. With the eight-month renovation complete, Snell is intentional on making the Icon cinema movie experience memorable, starting with comfort. “The seats are the best in the market. They’re red lipstick red, my wife chose the color. They have electric headrests that are adjustable, fully recline, they’re the big ones, big arms, and USB port so you can charge your phones,” said Snell.
Before movie goers get to comfort of the seats, a movie just isn’t a movie without snacks. “I’d rather you have lots of snacks and enjoy, instead of saying lets only get this, let’s get that,” said Snell. “We have beautiful popcorn warmers that you fill your own popcorn, put your own butter. Nacho stand, unlimited refills on cheese, and you get unlimited refills on your drinks, and it’s all self-serve,” said Snell. There’s even Blue Bell and Dippin'-Dots ice cream stands. And something a little special for adults. “We do, we finally have beer, wine, and champagne, and we also have adult slushy drinks,” said Snell.
Every Monday senior citizens get in for six dollars and on Tuesday all tickets are six dollars for everyone. “We have a first responders discount, military discount, educators discount,” said Snell. With tens screens showing the latest movies and affordable prices, assuring movie goers the best experience. “This is first run top notch everything, best projectors, best seats, great sound system, it’s definitely a first class, first run cinema,” said Snell.
Snell hopes the theater will attract other businesses to the area of NW 23rd and Meridian. For more information visit their Facebook page @ Icon Cinema OKC Windsor.
