Ingredients
- 1 pound bbq beef or pork, chopped
- 1 pound elbow macaroni, cooked al dente
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup smoked gouda, shredded
- 4 cups milk, warmed
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 6 tablespoons flour
- Hot sauce
- 1 cup cornbread, crumbled
- 1 cup fried onions
- Garnish with green onions and drizzle of bbq sauce
Instructions
- Noodles: Boil noodles till al dente.
- Spray Pan: Spray a 9x13 baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
- Cheese Sauce: To make the cheese sauce melt butter in a large saucepan. Allow butter to lightly brown and then whisk in flour. Allow butter to lightly brown and then whisk in flour. Allow flour to cook for 2-3 minutes until it turns a light golden brown. Whisk in the warm milk. Continue whisk until there are no lumps and the sauce begins to thicken. Remove from the heat and stir in the grated cheese until it is melted in a sauce has formed. Add additional hot sauce for a little kick and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Into Pan: Pour the cream sauce over the macaroni in the pan and stir together, add the barbecue meat on top and sprinkle with crumbled cornbread and fried onions.
- Bake: Cover with foil and bake in a 375° oven for 45 minutes. Take the foil off the pan and allow it to brown for an additional 10 minutes. Serve.
