As students across the Oklahoma City metro head back to school, an Oklahoma nonprofit is setting foster families up for a successful start to the school year.

There’s nothing like the excitement of a new school year, and even more so when it comes to picking out what outfit to wear on the first day, which is why Anna’s House Foundation is asking for gift cards so foster families can shop for their child's back-to-school clothing.

The foundation said children in state custody are typically two grades behind, and there is now an increase in the number of children entering the system from now until October, which makes the start of the school year much more difficult.

Kayla Stump, three-time donor to the foundation, said the experience of giving to others brings her joy, and asks for others to join in to make a difference\ and help children start the year with their best foot forward.

"If you could consider grabbing a gift card so they can go purchase those outfits and have a little control picking out what it is that they want to wear that they feel best in, so they can start the school year with their best foot forward," Stump said.

The foundation will be hosting a clothing drive until Friday, and foster families are already receiving what was donated, but Anna’s House said these families will continue to see a need past Friday.

Anna’s House said they always need donations and additional volunteers.
