The Tulsa Greek Festival is back for its 64th year.

The three-day festival is organized by the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, which was established in Tulsa in 1925. The festival first began in 1960 with a banquet dinner and has grown every year since.

“We were dancing in the street at one point, and now the big tent and everything, so it is just grown and grown to what it is now,” said festival chairperson Anastasia Boone.

Food is still at the heart of the event, with a menu full of Greek dishes and desserts.

“Our people who cook the food, they have flavor in their fingers, I say,” Boone said.

The recipes have been passed down from generation to generation by families in the parish.

“This is really the only place you can get authentic Greek food in Tulsa,” Boone said.

Inside the church, there is also a market with clothing, jewelry, ancient coins, and dried goods imported from Greece. Outdoors, there is a tent with a stage and tables to enjoy a meal with live music and entertainment from local dance groups.

“The kids and adults that do these dances practice for months to learn all the steps, but also learning the traditions that go with those dances,” said Boone.

A fun way to learn, appreciate, and celebrate Greek culture.

Admission to the festival is $5 for adults, and children 12 and under get in for free. Anyone wearing a toga on Thursday, Sept. 19 gets in for free.

It is open from 4-9 p.m. on Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The festival is at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 1222 S. Guthrie Ave.
