Tulsa Roughneck Roller Derby Prepares For Final Game Of The Season

The Tulsa Roughneck Roller Derby Team is set to host its final game of the season on Saturday, October 19. Members Abbey Haughey, Kandi Richardson, Ashleigh Gabriel, and Whitney Linscomb-Melton stopped by the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch to talk about the team and their upcoming matchup.

The team was originally established in 2012 as the Green Country Roller Derby. After the team dissolved, several members chose to stay and formed the Roughnecks.

The Mash Up will not only showcase exciting roller derby action but also support the nonprofit organization Meals on Wheels Metro Tulsa. The doubleheader will take place at the Ninowski Rec Center in Broken Arrow, featuring a matchup between the home teams at 5 p.m., where the Red Dirt Rollers will face off against The Cherry Bombs.

Many skaters in this game will be experiencing their first bout, with skill levels ranging from under a year to over 15 years of experience.

Following the home team matchup, the night will continue at 7 p.m. with an open-gender mashup titled "The Galactic Rumble: Monsters vs. Aliens." This fun and inclusive game invites skaters from various leagues to come together and participate, making it an entertaining spectacle for fans.

Tickets for the event are priced at $10, with a $2 discount available for those who bring a blanket for donation.

The Roughneck Roller Derby Team is focusing on rebuilding and recruiting after the disruptions caused by the pandemic. The league has emphasized training and preparation, gearing up for the return of their Elite team, Tulsa Elite, in the upcoming season.
