A beloved friend, coworker, and grandmother is tragically killed in a car crash.
In the wake of Debra Heath’s death, the community is coming together to offer comfort and support, especially to her twin granddaughters, who have already faced unimaginable grief. Debra was caring for her granddaughters after they lost their parents and younger sister. “It's been hard,” said Ricky Bryant, Heath’s coworker and longtime family friend.
Bryant remembers Debra Heath as a hard worker, who always put her family first. “Work was her life, she loved her grandkids, and she spent a lot of time with them, working to provide for them,” he said.
Bryant worked with Heath at Vox Printing in Oklahoma City. The loss is great among those who knew her. “She had some friends here, she was very well-liked,” Bryant said.
Heath passed away following a car crash on Sunday, Jan. 5, along Northeast 23rd Street in Nicoma Park. Police say her car veered off the roadway and crashed. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but later died. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
“It was a shock, it was a big shock; we're still trying to cope with it,” Bryant said.
Heath’s death is yet another heartbreak for the family. The beloved grandmother received custody of her twin granddaughters following a 2022 car crash in Harrah. The girls, 11 at the time, survived but lost their father, Heath’s son, and their younger sister. The girls had already lost their mother to lupus in 2019.
“She had to be strong for the girls, but she still struggled,” Bryant remembers. “We worked with her a lot, she had to take off a lot to school functions and just to pick them up after school and when they were sick, she was very busy taking care of the kids.”
Now, Vox Printing and the community are stepping up to help the grieving family, especially the girls.
“She was just crazy about her family and about her grandkids; she cherished them,” Bryant said. “We've just been there for support, getting them in counseling.”
Bryant said the girls are being cared for by other family members, with strong support from friends and loved ones.
“They're in school, they're with their friends, they have family, so they have a lot of support,” he said.
If you would like to help the family, a GoFundMe account is set up for the girls. Click here: Fundraiser by Toni Caldwell : Stewart Twins Need Us After Another Tragedy
