A family in Guthrie lost their home and food truck in the Logan County wildfires last weekend, they told News 9.
The Hallowell family said they felt devastated after returning to what was left over from their home.
“We get a phone call that his brother had lost his house. He lives about 10 miles from us, so we were hauling home and a friend of ours sent me a picture and said, ‘Is this your home?’ and that’s how we found out our house had burned down,” said wife and mother Chelsea Hallowell.
The Hallowells said their 19-year-old son was home at the time of the fire.
“He tried to get out what he could,” Chelsea explained.
Making away with a few titles and the clothes on his back, their son managed to escape.
However, the fire took the Hallowell’s food truck, which they named Red Cedar Pizza.
“We have been in business almost three years in June. Our family of six — this was our full-time income,” Chelsea stated.
Chelsea and her husband Gary found out insurance wasn’t going to cover their only source of income.
“It was our passion. It was what we absolutely loved doing,” Chelsea remembered.
Her husband said, “We don’t know what the plans are on the business yet. We plan on rebuilding some business — we’re just not sure if it’s going to be this one.”
Hunter Hallowell, the couple’s younger son, said he lost his fishing poles in addition to the family boat.
The fire left one thing untouched: the family’s 1916 red firetruck that was sitting for sale on the front lawn.
“It made it,” said Gary.
The image showed what little remains as the Hallowells start the healing process.
