The Oklahoma City Thunder are set to face the Utah Jazz in Friday's matchup, with starters set to rest before the anticipated and expected long playoff run they'll have coming soon.
News 9's Steve McGehee comes at us live from Delta Center as he explains how letting the starters rest for this game allows rookies Branden Carlson and Dillon Jones to get crucial time on the court and some support from family and friends on the side as well.
As students, Jones played for Weber State University as Carlson played for the University of Utah.
"With just 2 games left in the season, Oklahoma City is going to rely on their bench the rest of the way tonight and in New Orleans on Sunday afternoon," McGehee said.
The playoff run for the Thunder could potentially stretch until mid-June, so the team aren't taking any risks to their starting lineup, which helps the bench get some much needed experience.
In an interview Carlson said "I had to get so many tickets for tonight. Had to talk to friends and family coming out."
Meanwhile, Jones took a more laid-back approach to his upcoming matches. "I'm not trying to put too much on the moment," he said. "Just take it day in and day out like I have been. But it's been cool that I get to play a lot and be back home in a way."
The OKC Thunder will take on the Utah Jazz tonight at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City at 8:30 p.m.
