Skiatook police are looking for answers after a member of a veteran’s organization reported vandalism to their building. In the last months, displays honoring different branches of the military were damaged and a door to the building had an obscene word carved in.

In March, signs honoring the Air Force and Coast Guard had letters scraped off outside the American Legion Post 131 building. This week, an obscene word was carved into the back door that leads into the lounge.

Finance officer John Yox, a Vietnam veteran, told News On 6 it is appalling to see the building be targeted more than once. He described the building as a place where veterans can come get community and help.

Yox said money is already tight and it is unfortunate to have to pay for repairs when cash should be going to help veterans. He is hopeful that someone knows something and nothing else happens to the building.

“I can’t understand the lack of patriotism that’s shown by doing something like this to the veteran’s organization,” said Yox.

Anyone with information about the vandalism should call Skiatook Police at (918) 396-2424.
