A son is left in shock after he learned police arrested a family member for his father's murder.
“It was a very shocking tragedy. I just still can't believe it,” said Elijah Bronner.
On Tuesday, police arrested the victim's nephew, 26-year-old Mikelynn Thomas.
According to court records, Anthony Bronner was shot to death while sitting in his wheelchair inside his metro apartment.
“The real question is why? It was a sad day. I still don't get to see my father. I still don't get that I love you no more,” said Elijah Bronner.
After weeks of wondering why and who, Elijah Bronner learned Thomas, his cousin, was arrested in connection with his father's death.
Police said Thomas left his cellphone and state ID at the scene near SW 59th and May Avenue last month.
“Was it worth it? Was it worth killing a person that couldn't defend himself?” said Elijah Bronner.
In a balloon release with his favorite colors, Anthony Bronner's extended family honored his life.
His son said his dad was his biggest supporter and a man whose family was always his top priority.
“He loved his family. He'd do anything for us. If you don't have a place to stay, he'll house you. If you need food, he got you. If you need somebody to talk to, he's always there for you,” said Elijah Bronner.
So when Thomas needed a place to stay, his uncle welcomed him in.
“My father is the father of fathers. He treated his nephews with the utmost respect,” said Elijah Bronner.
This made his cousin's alleged involvement hard to understand for the family.
“They had a great relationship as far as I know. I just don't know what went left,” said Elijah Bronner.
But family or not, if his cousin is guilty, Elijah Bronner said he expected him to answer for what he’s done.
“I just hope that if that is true, that justice should be served,” said Elijah Bronner.
Police are still working to identify a second person possibly involved in the homicide and a motive.
