An Oklahoma teenager brought home the world title for best junior auctioneer in July.
Coincidentally, this year's championship was hosted in Oklahoma City.
Newly crowned Brandon Mendoza said recent weeks have been a rush of emotions.
"I have a great community in my hometown here in Hennessey," he said. "Very good, humble people. And I told my parents: I am staying very humble. I know where I come from. It definitely started from zero."
Mendoza stands apart. Not only for being a first generation auctioneer, but also being one of the only a handful in the junior league who are bilingual.
"Seeing that Hispanic customer's face lighten up when they have someone that is accessible brings me all the joy in the world," he said.
It's taken him many years of practice. And in previous years, he came close.
Life since the championship has introduced him to a world of job opportunities. On Tuesday, he started filing for an LLC.
He also has offers to do auctions in Chicago, Florida and Indiana; including one for luxury cars.
“I have had the blessing to be able to grow and expand and take a lot of advice from people, much older, with a lot more wisdom," Mendoza said.
