A group of University of Oklahoma students and their professors will set off on a road trip on Monday to learn more about all the cultural stops along Route 66.
Students and professors from the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication will travel along the famous highway from Oklahoma City to the Santa Monica Pier in California.
Before setting off however, the group met with the Coca-Cola Southwest beverages Porch at an Oklahoma City landmark, which coincidentally came from Santa Monica.
Meeting with the News 9 team at the Wheeler District Ferris Wheel, associate director of professional graduate programs Carla Holmes said the road trip is in preparation for the Route 66 centennial in 2026.
"We've got a student crew that's gonna be capturing our adventures all along the way," Holmes said. "We're going to be sharing our experiences with cultural and local experts... We're going to share that with our students so they can promote and create amazing campaigns to promote tourism here in Oklahoma."
Holmes said this trip will help raise money for the centennial fund, and and give students the opportunity to hone their skills capturing the entire journey.
