Arcadia Round Barn: A Historic Route 66 Treasure

The Round Barn in Arcadia is more than just a roadside curiosity—it’s a window into Oklahoma’s rich past.

News 9's Jordan Ryan took the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch to the barn to check it out.

Built in 1898 by William Odor and his wife, Myra, the iconic structure has stood the test of time, welcoming visitors from around the world and sharing a piece of local history.

“He thought the winds and tornadoes would go around the barn, so that’s why he wanted to build it around,” said Andrea Moon, from the Arcadia Historical and Preservation Society.

The architectural marvel features a second-floor dance hall, which was included at Odor’s insistence for the enjoyment of his workers.

“From day one, they did the dancing up there, and then they had the livestock down here,” she explained.

The barn fell into disrepair under its second owners but was restored in 1993 thanks to the efforts of a local resident. Since then, it has been a beloved landmark along Route 66, drawing nearly 2,000 visitors a month.

“It’s been here so long; it’s a part of Oklahoma history,” Moon said. “It’s a place for international people to come and visit and the locals as well.”

As a nonprofit, the Round Barn relies on volunteers and donations to maintain its operations.

They sell books and have a variety of artifacts and souvenirs available for purchase, including Route 66 memorabilia.

Visitors are encouraged to explore the barn’s history, admire its unique architecture, and enjoy the dance floor that has been in use for over 125 years.

The Round Barn is open to the public, and volunteers are always welcome to join the mission of preserving this historical treasure.
